Thank you to the participants and staff who made the 8th Annual Students and Government Day such a success!

Out of more than a 1,000 essays submitted by students in the area, an elite group of 21 8th graders were invited to participate in the 2014 Students and Government day.

Now in its 8th year, the day kicked off this morning with a tour of various City Departments including the Police Station and City Hall. Students shadowed not only the Mayor and City Council members throughout the day, but also Executive Staff. Through this program, the City hopes to engage civic participation at an early age by giving students an inside look at how local government operates. Part of this unique program also allows the students to conduct a portion of a real live council meeting. The 21 students were selected from 13 public and private schools in Torrance.
